Few places on earth exude eternal beauty
like Dominica, located in the Eastern Caribbean, the island embraces a
sense of serene, ageless beauty. It's a place where man and nature live
in harmony, above and below the surrounding sea. You’ll remember the
small coastal towns. The rugged mountains of the interior. The
generosity of the people, and blessed with fertile soil and abundant
seas, you’ll remember the quiet confidence of and island that can feed
itself. For well-traveled couples. Young adventurers. Professionals
looking to unwind. And everyone who travels with a passion not just to
see things, but to make discoveries, Dominica anticipates your arrival.
English is the official language. Locals
often speak a Creole-French patois.
Dominica is lenient, allowing you to bring personal and household
effects, plus 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, and 40 ounces of liquor or wine
per person.
Most hotels and restaurants add a 10%
service charge to bills; check carefully to see if it's been added.
If this charge has not been included, tipping is up to you, though an
additional 15% for particularly good service is always welcome.
Daytime temperatures average between 70°
and 85°F (21°C-29°C). Nights are much cooler,
especially
in the mountains. The rainy season is June to October, when there can be
hurricane activity. Dominica lies in the hurricane belt, and fierce
storms have taken their toll on the island over the years.
A 10% government room tax is added on
accommodations, and a 5% tax on alcoholic drinks and food items. Anyone
who remains on Dominica for more than 24 hours must pay an EC$50 (US$19)
departure tax
